Actions borne by fear, and fear borne by actions… A year has passed since Aizen's betrayal, and Soul Society has hardly gained any ground in the war. The Arrancar are steadily learning from their encounters with the shinigami, always coming out with new attacks and finding new weaknesses in their opponents. The shinigami, on the other hand, are quickly realizing that there are certain limits that they cannot seem to transcend - at least, not the way they are now. Desperate, Soul Society has called back some of their exiled members, as they need every pair of hands they can get. In the beginning, everything seemed fine; the return of certain captain-level shinigami helped fill the holes left by the departure of Gin and Tousen. However, shinigami from every division began to realize that such a move was not enough. A new faction is beginning to rise in Soul Society, under the direction of the former twelfth division leader himself, Urahara Kisuke. Using Kurosaki Ichigo as his spearhead, Kisuke is now opening the eyes of many shinigami to the concept of hollowization, the merging of shinigami and hollow powers. Whether for better or for worse, more and more are joining his ranks, angering the likes of Yamamoto and others who despise the use of hollow powers, regardless of purpose. A previously united front is now slowly breaking apart, and such could not have happened at a more inopportune time. |
